Feb 4th Meeting
A selection of work from our meeting on 4th February where we contemplated various approaches to the project. Sustainability and environmentally friendly concepts were included in the design. We paid particular attention to the facilities provided by the school and to what new facilities are required.
The boys presented their ideas to the rest of the team. We were very impressed by their ideas and presentation skills.
Well done!

Considering Elevations
The red area represents our infill project. When considering the elevations we will think of the materials carefully, the composition of the façade, where the windows and doors are placed. We will also pay close attention to the effects of the façade on the interior of the building, how light enters, what type of light, heating etc. For our next meeting I would like the team to have ideas of the types of materials they would like to consider, rubbings, photos, magazine cut-outs and even real samples.
THE SITE
Above is a plan of the school showing the site area we have chosen. This new intervention will link both buildings creating a communal hub space. We will use this space as an entrance hall, an assembly space, a sports hall and a lunch space. It is a multipurpose connector drawing together the whole school and creating one building.

Work and Rubbings from Grand Canal Dock
First of all each team made rubbings of various surfaces around Grand Canal Dock. We have included a selection of these rubbings.
Next each group chose a space where they would like to sit in the summer and study outdoors. Here are some of their thoughts on their chosen spaces:
Nice cut grass,no shadows, nice in the sun, water beside you, shops and bins nearby, bench for putting books and bags, but no shelter from the rain. Would be nice at night with all lights.
Written by Eugene, David and Connor.
It's a green area, in summer there will be sun. Also there are lots of seats.
